Hardware

Computers

The lab area features two HP Z1 workstations with 27-inch monitors that are ideal for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) work and other graphics-intensive applications. The workstations are connected to the Stanford network so any student, researcher or docent with a SUNet ID can log in unassisted. The Stanford login allows for secure connection to Stanford network resources such as the Jasper Ridge file server and Stanford AFS system.

Network Storage

Jasper Ridge has dedicated space on a centrally-managed network file server that students, researchers and docents can use to store or share data. Terabytes of storage space are available and are automatically backed up in a secure location. Contact Jasper Ridge's Local Network Administrator (LNA) for information about connecting to the file server.

Virtual computers

The preserve maintains a Hyper-V server that allows for the on-demand creation of virtual computers that can be used for research and educational purposes. Virtual machines are very useful for applications that require the computer to be running all the time but not portable such as servers and data collection and storage. Contact the Academic Technology Specialist for more information about virtual computers.
