This project is part of the Motus Wildlife Tracking System (Motus), an international collaborative research network that leverages radio signaling to track and monitor migratory animals. 

Observations from Motus towers at Jasper Ridge and around the world will be used to study migration patterns, population dynamics, and the impact of environmental changes on avian communities. As part of the Motus research network, the preserve joined a community of researchers worldwide to cultivate collaborative research with open access policies. Stanford researchers and other researchers, including those in the SOAR network, who are permitted to handle and tag birds will help track avian species of interest. The project is also being used as an educational experience for students to learn about migration, avian diversity and ecology, threats to biodiversity, and how technology is being used to investigate all of these fields.
