2023-2024 Annual Report

2023-2024, A transformative year!
Our Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve ('Ootchamin 'Ooyakma) 2023-2024 Annual Report illustrates a year filled with significant research, education, and stewardship milestones. The preserve has effectively added Indigenous knowledge and practices to our ongoing research and educational initiatives, notably including a fuel reduction and vegetation management project to enhance wildfire resilience at JRBP ('O'O). This pile burn project protects our community, supports the local environment and offers new educational opportunities for students and researchers. The completion of the 49th class of the Ecology and Natural History of Jasper Ridge, the onboarding of the 2nd cohort of the Stewardship Interns, and the recognition of the Environmental Scholar Awards underscore the preserve's dedication to nurturing well rounded leaders in science, education and stewardship.
The report also commemorates the 50th anniversary of Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve ('Ootchamin 'Ooyakma), celebrating its legacy of significant contributions to ecological research and education. Over the past five decades, the preserve has become a renowned site for long-term studies that have revealed fundamental ecological principles applicable globally. These studies have benefited from the continuity and commitment of researchers, students, staff and docents who have dedicated countless hours to understanding the preserve's unique ecosystem. I invite you to read our blogs and watch both videos of each of the events.
We at Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve ('Ootchamin 'Ooyakma) express our gratitude to you all, the community, for your unwavering support. Tad and I and the rest of the team are always excited to work with you all, people that are interested in inspiring scientific curiosity, motivating early career stewards while also addressing global environmental challenges. Jasper Ridge is poised to build on its strong foundations, continuing to apply both Indigenous knowledge and Western science to foster a deeper, more holistic understanding of ecological stewardship and environmental sustainability.
Gracias y saludos!
