Save the dates! Evening Lectures are back for 2025-2026!
Trail of Truth Evening Lecture: Chairwoman of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, Charlene Nijmeh, will speak on “The Trail of Truth Continues,” on Tuesday, October 21 at 3:30 PM at Sun Field Station. See more details on our calendar of events.
Mapache Gate upgrade: Access is now card‑key only. Please use your issued docent Stanford ID or HID card; Jasper Ridge physical keys will no longer work.
Searsville Watershed Restoration Project: The SWRP website has been updated and a new NOAA Story Map featuring Jasper Ridge has been posted. Subscribe on the SWRP site for updates.
Sun Field Station renovation: Siding work is progressing; a punch list is expected in late October–early November.
San Mateo County mosquito treatment: The final 2025 treatment is scheduled for October 2 (with October 3 as a backup).
OBFS 2025: Jorge Ramos will participate and present at the Organization of Biological Field Stations annual meeting at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory.

New publication: Jasper Ridge scientists co‑authored “Soil moisture and the number of simultaneous stressors drive interactions among global changes on denitrification”. This study advances the understanding of nitrogen‑cycle responses to multiple stressors.

New Research
Student Allie Skalnik is working with Prof. Rodolfo Dirzo and is testing bobcat scat for anticoagulant rodenticides to investigate links to mange. If you find fresh bobcat scat, please report it using this form.
Oakmead Herbarium
Thank you to Ann Lambrecht for completing and uploading decades’ worth of plant observations to Calflora. The records date back to 1975, when she joined the first docent cohort taught by Herb Dengler. We thank and congratulate Ann for her years of volunteer service and for making her botanical observations publicly available for research, education and inspiring future botanists!
Project highlight:
Learn how Prof. Leo Hollberg and Asst. Prof. Alison Hoyt are developing optical methods for continuous methane monitoring above Searsville reservoir.

Jasper Ridge Stewardship Intern program
Jaime Yu and Atash Heil completed the 10‑week stewardship internship focused on fuel‑reduction field methods and data collection, invasive‑species management, and independent projects presented at the BSURP symposium. Atash’s project was titled “Oak Regeneration Under Fuel Reduction Management,” and Jaime’s project was titled “Informed Stewardship: Invasive Species Distribution & Risk Mapping”.
Annual SLAC tree maintenance
Work under power lines is mostly complete; some trimming and removals occurred.
