Updates to Leslie Shao-ming Sun Field Station
As part of our building maintenance and renewal project to upgrade Leslie Shao-ming Sun Field Station, starting next week we will be taking down and replacing the glycol collectors with new collectors that will be 40% more efficient. The second phase includes replacing the composite roofing and it is estimated that the new roof will be completed three weeks after construction begins.

2023 Stewardship Intern Program Completed
Our inaugural Stewardship Intern Program students completed their summer at Jasper Ridge. Mary completed the wildfire and cultural burn informative webpage (coming soon!) and a science communication poster about our field reduction work at Jasper Ridge. Kiara completed a research poster in collaboration with docents Vivian Neou and Jan Hintermeister and presented it during the annual Biology Summer Undergraduate Research Program (BSURP) Poster Symposium (see picture below). You can see both posters by Mary and Kiara next time you visit the field station!
Jasper Ridge and Stanford Wildfire Management Progress
Jasper Ridge continues to complete components of the Stanford Wildfire Management Plan in collaborations with many of our Stanford LBRE partners. It has provided new educational and research opportunities with numerous students and faculty. The fire fuel reduction work on Sand Hill Road is almost done. The last of the chipping and re-distribution of biomass will be completed next week. A larger crew will start work on our southern Westridge fence. The crew will start early in the mornings by the Mapache Gate area to start handwork and will move all the way to Escobar Gate area. All of the work will take approximately 3-4 weeks and it will include chipping and will bring a masticator for very specific gates during the later weeks.
