Cindy Wilber receives Service of Excellence Award
Education Coordinator Cindy Wilber was honored today with the Arnice P. Streit Service of Excellence Award for her two decades of dedicated and inspirational teaching and mentoring at Jasper Ridge. The award is one of the highest honors for staff in the School of Humanities and Sciences. It was presented by H&S Dean Richard Saller, after Senior Associate Dean Steve Olson summarized the nomination letters from students, staff, and faculty whose lives Cindy has shaped. Cindy was recognized for opening students’ eyes to nature and to career paths in environmental science, for helping to diversify the next generation of field scientists, for building partnerships across generations and countries to expand science education, and for caring about people as whole individuals. Among the most poignant tributes were letters of gratitude from students for the mentoring they received from Cindy across many aspects of their life, from academics, to well-being, to life goals. Cindy organizes and manages JRBP’s education programs, which bring more than five thousand people to Jasper Ridge every year (see pages 18-19 in the JRBP annual report).
